LIEPAJA, Latvia – Florida State women’s basketball player Leonor Rodriguez scored 10 points and Spain earned an 80-57 win over Turkey on Wednesday at the FIBA U20 European Championship in Liepaja, Latvia.
With the victory, Rodriguez and her Spanish teammates moved to 5-0 overall in Group F and captured first place in their group qualifying round. Spain next matches up against the Ukraine on Friday.
Prior to the win over Turkey, Rodriguez’s squad earned triumphs over Lithuania and Belarus in back-to-back days.
Through six total games in Latvia, Rodriguez -- FSU’s rising sophomore guard from the Canary Islands -- has averaged 24.7 minutes played per contest and 10 points on 55.3 percent shooting.
Rodriguez ranks No. 20 in total assists at the FIBA U20 European Championship, No. 16 in total two-point field goals made and No. 5 in field goal percentage.
The Seminoles (29-5) advance to meet No. 1-seeded Connecticut (36-0).

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -Moments after her team had pulled off the biggest win in Florida State history, coach Sue Semrau was already facing questions about her team's next opponent.
So, Semrau was asked, is Connecticut the greatest team of all time?
"I haven't been around for all-time, so I can't tell you if they're the greatest team of all-time," she said, clearly put off. Courtney Ward scored the third-seeded Seminoles' last six points in the final 38 seconds, leading the way to a 74-71 victory over No. 7 seed Mississippi State on Sunday in the Dayton Regional semifinal. Florida State (29-5) advanced to meet No. 1-seeded UConn (36-0), which beat Iowa State in the earlier semi, in Tuesday night's regional final. The Huskies rolled to a 78-59 win when they met earlier in the season.

Monroe scored Florida State's final four points of regulation to spark a last-ditch rally, then scored the gamewinner with 28.9 seconds left as the Seminoles beat St. John's 66-65 in the second round of the NCAA women's tournament on Monday night - a game featuring 19 ties and 19 lead changes. Monroe scored a game-high 16 points for Florida State (28-5), which got 15 from Alysha Harvin and 10 each from Chasity Clayton and Alexa Deluzio.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -Once Florida State figured out a way to keep Shanavia Dowdell in check, things finally started clicking for the Seminoles.
It just took a lot longer than they planned.
Jacinta Monroe and Courtney Ward each scored 16 points, and third-seeded Florida State clamped down defensively in the second half to escape with a 75-61 win over 14th-seeded Louisiana Tech on Saturday in the NCAA women's tournament. Chasity Clayton and Alexa Deluzio each added 10 points for Florida State (27-5), which will play St. John's in the second round of the Dayton Regional on Monday night.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Former Florida State Seminole Brooke Wyckoff was honored at the ACC Tournament on Friday when she became an ACC Legend. Wyckoff was a four-year starter for head coach Sue Semrau's first Seminole squad. The ACC held a luncheon for the most recent legends Friday afternoon in the War Memorial Coliseum in Greensboro. Wyckoff was one of 12 honorees as she was joined by Annie Odoy (Boston College), Donna Forrester-Reed (Clemson), Connie Goins (Duke), Joyce Pierce-Joyner (Georgia Tech), Tara Heiss (Maryland), Meghan (Saake) Knokey (Miami), Tonya Sampson (North Carolina), Andrea Stinson (NC State), Jenny Boucek (Virginia), Tere Williams (Virginia Tech) and Barbara Durham (Wake Forest).

Courtney Ward added 13 points for the Seminoles (19-4, 5-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who had their big second-half lead whittled all the way down to a point three times in the final minutes. But Florida State put together an eight-point spurt in the final 3 minutes to finally pull away, sealing their first win in Chapel Hill since the 2000-01 season.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State women's athletics teams are joining forces this season with Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare for their annual "Paint it Pink" campaign. During the 2009-10 season, six women's sports will host a 'Pink' game. Teams will don such items as pink shoe laces, swim caps and jerseys during their respective `Pink' game to show support for the cause. Proceeds from each 'Pink' game will be donated to the Tallahassee Memorial Sharon Ewing Walker Cancer Center at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare as well as the WBCA Kay Yow Cancer Fund in honor of the late NC State women's basketball head coach.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State women's basketball head coach Sue Semrau received a very special invitation from the President and CEO of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to take part in the ground breaking ceremony for the new Sharon Ewing Walker Breast Cancer Center.
Semrau was the only non-medical related individual to speak at the ceremony, which demonstrates how highly she is viewed in the community. She gave a resounding speech about the importance of `TEAM' and how everyone needs to come together to reach the end goal.
